Darrell Gigabet Dicken

Gigabet is arguably the best known online poker player ever.  Gigabet began his online career dominating the online tournament fields, before turning his attentions to live poker tournaments.  Deep runs in World Series of Poker and World Poker Tour Events in the past couple years confirmed that his abilities are easily adaptable to live poker as well.  Gigabet has won 4 titles, including a WSOP Circuit Event victory and WPT Championship.  Between 2005 and 2007, Gigabet dominated the online poker scene, but the past couple years has significantly cut back on his tournament participation and is no longer a threat to win Online Player of the Year awards.  Gigabet is still a legend in the online poker community, but should be a live threat in any tournament he participates in.

The Game of Dominoes

The Object of the Game

The object of the game is, of course, to get rid of all the tiles in your hand, dominobet and thus, create a domino. If a player can play his last tile, prior to laying his last tile on the board, he says, “Domino” and then places the tile on the board to signify that he has a domino and is out of the round. In fact, he just won the game.

Once all the tiles are picked from the bone yard and none of the players can play to either side of the board, the player with the lowest points, as determined by adding the remaining tiles in their hand together, wins the game.

The Rules of Draw

The game of draw dominoes starts with 28 tiles. The tiles are placed face down and shuffled by mixing them around with your hands. Each player then draws seven tiles, places them in their hand, and looks to see which tiles they have. Each player does this. The highest tile is the “double six,” and the player that has this tile, places it on the board and then the person who is sitting next to them clockwise, then plays to the board. If no one has the “double six,” the next highest tile, the “double five” plays. Each player then takes their turn, playing to either end of the line of dominoes. If a player is unable to make a game play, they must then draw one tile from the bone yard.

If the tile drawn cannot play to either end of the domino pile, they knock or rap to signify that they cannot play, and the turn is then passed to the next player.

Block Dominoes

Block Dominoes is played along the same principle as Draw Dominoes; however, the play does not include picking tiles from the bone yard. Therefore, if a person cannot match the end tile from a tile in their hand, they forfeit their play to the next player.

Memory Game- Great for Kids

Children are often introduced to dominoes by their parents who challenge them to a game of memory with a set of domino tiles. It helps the child to focus on the challenge and it teaches them to concentrate on the tiles on the board and what tiles are remaining.

Movie Reviews – The Taking of Pelham 123

Movie Reviews this week looks at the suspense thriller The Taking of Pelham 123. 123movies It stars Denzel Washington (Training day) as Walter Garber, as he puts it a “lowly public sector employee” looking after the trains that run through the intersections at New York, except this day he didn’t know what he was getting himself into when he puts his socks on this morning.

It also stars John Travolta (Pulp fiction) as Ryder , straight out of prison and looking to for some kind of revenge on the City of New York. He and his accomplices Phil Ramos played by Luis Guzman (Traffic) and Bashkim played by Victor Gojcaj manage to hijack Pelham 123, so called because it arrives at Pelham at precisely 1:23 p.m. As Walter’s job this day is operating the trains (it turns out he has been demoted penning an investigation if he took a bribe) so it is left to Walter to bargain with Ryder for the lives of the several passengers on board, while Ryder asks the City of New York via it’s mayor placed pretty well by James Gandolfini (The Sopranos), it turns out Ryder wants $10 million dollars and one cent after making Walter calculate what the current rate is for the “commodities” on the train, Ryder says he wants $10 million dollars, Walter sarcastically asks him about the one cent, and he says Walter can keep it as a broker’s fee.

In comes a special Hostage Negotiator Camonetti played by John Turturro (You don’t mess with the Zohan), there is a particular well made scene, where Walter is told he has done a good job, while Camonetti takes over negotiating with Ryder, that leads to some disastrous consequences.

Walter is chased and brought back to negotiating per Ryder’s request and as the two get to know a little about each other, Ryder asks why he is doing control work for the trains, Walter explains he has been demoted pending an investigation, what follows is a brilliantly shot scene, where Walter is made to confess in front of the Mayor, his boss, and all his colleagues that he did take the bribe, how he did it and what he used the money for, or else hostages would be killed, at first the audience is not sure if the confession was on the spur of the moment to save lives, but from Walter’s expression it seems genuine.

Understanding “Income Purpose” Investing

After 45 years of investing, giftal registration I’ve come to the conclusion that the equity (or growth purpose) market is a far easier medium for investors to understand than the far safer, and generally less volatile, income purpose securities market. As counter intuitive as this sounds, experience supports the premise.

“Understanding” boils down to the development of reasonable expectations: just how do you expect the market value of your income purpose securities to react to varying market, interest rate, economic, political, atmospheric, and “other” conditions”… and, does it really matter?

Few investors grow to love volatility as I do, but most expect it in the market value of their equity positions. When dealing with “income purpose” securities, however, neither they, their guru/advisors, nor market commentators are comfortable with any downward movement whatsoever.

  • Not to make excuses for them, but most professional and media folk think in terms of the individual bonds and other debt securities that Wall Street markets to brokerage firms and other large investment entities. Bond traders hate to discount their inventory due to higher interest rates… it’s bad for year end bonuses. But their bond market disaster is the individual investor’s opportunity to buy the same amount of income at a lower price.

Most investors are also more receptive to loss taking advice on income securities than they are with respect to equities… always the effect of a “market value” rather than an “income production” focus… and a well kept Wall Street secret.

The list below describes some important characteristics and concepts involved with investing in income purpose securities. Familiarization with these will aid in the development of valid “performance” expectations. Doing so will also help develop an appreciation of this important (and somehow not too often mentioned) relationship: changing market values (in either direction) rarely have any impact on the income being generated by the security.

  • Confucius say: keep your eye on the ball, you can’t buy groceries with market value or total return, only income pays the bills… without depleting sacred capital

General attributes of income purpose securities:

  • They generate a predictable stream of interest, dividend, rent, royalty or other income.
  • They pay income in specific amounts on specified dates.
  • Their risk of financial loss varies dependent upon security type, issuer quality, and maturity, BUT, all normal income securities are considered far less risky (financially) than the common stock of their respective issuing entities. State government paper is less risky; federal government issues carry no financial risk at all.
  • The purpose of the income asset allocation of an investment portfolio is the production of income in an amount large enough to assure: annual growth of income producing capital and annual growth of income production.
  • High dividend common stocks (utilities, etc.) are not included within the income purpose security definition, although they may be less risky than other equities.
  • Bonds, loans, and other interest bearing securities are issued by both corporations and government entities and have maturity dates upon which the principal is returned to investors.
  • Income securities that are guaranteed as to principal and interest, or protected by “safety mechanisms” of any kind always bear a lower yield than otherwise similar securities.
  • Generally, fluctuations in market value have nothing to do with the financial viability of the security issuer. Most often, they are the result of anticipated changes in the direction of interest rates, or the tax code.
  • Any form of either market value or total return performance analysis in a predominantly income purpose investment portfolio is counterproductive, at best… particularly when comparisons are made with any form of equity index.
  • Bonds, mortgages, notes, and other “debt” instruments are generally illiquid securities with wide price “spreads”, and difficult to either sell at “statement” prices or add to from the marketplace.
  • Income closed end fund portfolios are liquid containers for illiquid securities, thus eliminating the major drawbacks of owning individual bonds, mortgages, loans, etc.
  • Higher interest rates (lower prices) are good for income investors because they produce higher yields from new (and existing) securities that are available for purchase.
  • Lower interest rates (higher prices) are good for income investors because they can provide “reasonable” profit taking opportunities on securities already owned.
  • A reasonable trading profit on an income purpose security is anything in the neighborhood of “one year’s interest in advance”, keeping in mind that three 7s always beat two 10s.

Theoretically, income purpose securities should be the ultimate “buy and hold” security blanket within retirement income portfolios. But if you examine the average retirement portfolio, especially 401k portfolios, you would find a remarkable low “income purpose” asset allocation. This seemingly nonsensical behavior is as much the result of government regulation as Wall Street manipulation. For example:

  • The Vanguard Retirement Income Fund (VTINX), with nearly $17 billion in assets, is one of the most popular and well respected of all funds in retirement income portfolios, particularly 401ks. The five individual funds inside yield just 1.75% in actual spending money to investors… but they are dirt cheap.
  • A diversified portfolio of income purpose Closed End Funds (CEFs), with payment histories stretching back more than twenty years, would yield well in excess of 7.00% after somewhat higher expense (that the security owner never actually pays).
  • CEFs are never found in 401k plans and rarely appear in IRA and other retirement portfolios created by investment professionals; please tell me if you know why.
  • Confucius say: if you buy cheap, you get what you pay for

The focus of an income purpose portfolio needs to be: the amount of realized, spendable, income produced irrespective of market value fluctuations. The operative investment management objectives need to be: growing both the productive working capital and the spendable “base income” produced by the portfolio.

Wall Street has you believing that lower market values are always bad and that higher prices are always good. This is the conventional wisdom we’ve all had thrust upon us for decades. But price volatility is the very nature of securities markets, the very reality that creates both buying and profit taking opportunities, particularly in income purpose securities.

  • Higher income purpose security prices mean lower yields, but also increased realized profit potential; lower income purpose security prices mean higher yields and buying opportunities. I see no bad or good; just the opportunity created by either scenario. (The same is true, incidentally, with Investment Grade Value Stocks.)
  • It is the inherent safety (i.e., lower risk of financial loss) of income purpose securities (and IGVSs) that creates this almost perfect relationship. Price volatility is always good.

The Greatest Baby Gifts Money Can Not Buy

Baby showers are a great way to show your support for new mothers and their new born. giftal login
The main focus, of course, is to get the best baby gifts or gifts you can think of and hope that the mum goes yes and not Oh Wow and the best gifts are those which have the most sentimental value, not the ones which hold the most economical value.

Of course, there are many ways in which a gift can be considered to have sentimental value. It could be something you and the mother shared in your younger years, a toy perhaps; it could also be something which represents a happy memory of the mothers, or it could be something you made yourself.

A great idea is to pull out your old photo album or your old folder with all your photos saved on it as the trend has become and pick out all the best moments. Keep in mind these photos are little rectangular memories, so handle them with care and never use the original in any craftwork.

You may wish to use these old photos to print on some new born merchandise with a loving or memorable message, or make a card to add a little extra sentimentality. These photos, however, can also be used as clues as to what to purchase. You may notice something which the mother would be sure to remember from your childhood and you can base your gift around that central idea.

There are, however, times when you may not have known the mother your whole life, or you may not know her at all. The best option in this case, is to put together your own little team of gifts, each one handpicked by you, a custom baby gift box if you will. This is a great option as you can choose a whole heap of really useful objects, your pacifiers, your milk bottles, your new arrival clothing and put them all in one big gift box or hamper.

Then there are times when you do not know the mother, do not care for the mother and are really just there for the food. Now would be a great time to go and just spend a bunch of money on the most expensive baby pacifier 5000 you can find, you know, the one that teaches the child a new language while they suck on the bottle.

The Right Shirt Can Make or Break Mens Suits

The right type of shirt paired with mens suits can complete the air of confidence and success that you want to portray. Trump Pence 2020 T Shirt The wrong type of shirt leads to a very awkward social event in which you may want to disappear from sight. The question begs to be asked, what factors should a man look at when choosing the right shirt? The key element involved is the quality fabric. The right fabric allows for easy-care and holds its body so that your clean, pressed look continues throughout your day. Another consideration is the collar of the shirt. Do not underestimate what a button-down or sloppy collar paired with mens suits can do to destroy the professional image you are trying to project.

Button-Down Collars Are Not for Formal Mens Suits

Button-down collars are easy to spot by the tiny button holes at the tips of the collar of a shirt. When introduced to American society in 1900 by John Brooks, many didn’t realize that he founded the idea from British Polo players who wore them to keep their collars from flapping in their faces. While the Polo players wore formal cotton shirts, this style is not recommended in the average formal wear circuit.

The 1960s “preppy” look popularized today’s button-down collar. These are created specifically for casual men’s wear and not for formal or business mens suits. Gracing college campuses and some office buildings from the 1960s to present day, the button-down collar is not something that is appropriate for any situation. This sporty look should be confined to use with sports coats.

The Right Collar

Style and quality are interchangeable for the man who understands that his image speaks volumes about his professionalism. Formal mens suits should always be paired with a shirt that has a well-tailored and stiff collar. You never see James Bond or Donald Trump with a wrinkled collar, you shouldn’t have one either.

If you need a versatile look to go from the boardroom to a casual or social event, consider shirts with removable collar stiffeners. These can transform your look from formal into casual in just a moment’s time.

Starch Unnecessary

Quality men’s shirts need very little starch to hold their sleek, pressed and professional look. Experts in mens suits and men’s clothing in general agree that the cheaper the fabric the more starch is required to keep shirts looking crisp and clean. Well woven fabrics will require no more than ironing or steaming to remove any wrinkles that may occur during the cleaning process.

Fashion Faux Pas to Avoid

  • Do not settle for inexpensive and ill-fitting shirts. A collar and sleeves fitted to your size is an essential part of a man’s wardrobe.
  • Button all of the buttons on your shirt in a formal setting.

Formal mens suits only look as good as the clothing they are paired with. A professional look requires a high-end shirt. This is easily recognizable by the tailor-made fit, high level of comfort and the ability to look sharp throughout your busy event.

The Real Secret To Freelance Success

I can tell you from experience that the first thing that goes through your mind as a new freelancer is “OK, freelance jobs for beginners now how much am I going to make this month?” I can probably even safely say that this thought passes by nearly every freelancer just starting out.

Now, three years later, I can tell you that if you focus solely on the money part of running your own freelance business, you will fail. Focusing on money, only, takes the attention away from your clients who need the real attention from your freelance business.

I’ll tell you a quick story of how I obtained one of my best clients. I normally use the freelance work exchange, Elance, to seek out projects as a programmer. I encountered one for which I placed a bid and then noticed in the description of the project that he was from a town in California which I happened to have stayed at one day. I decided I would make a rather flattering comment about it in my bid.

This client of mine admitted to me that my bid was not the lowest, nor were my qualifications the best compared with other bids. He chose me, however, simply because he had the gut instinct that I was reliable and honest, but also I took that first step in “breaking the ice” with him. This was three years ago and still, to the day, he provides continuous business for which I am grateful.

Shortly after starting to work with this client, I realized that my approach to gaining projects and a resulting salary depended on creating relationships with my clients. This was especially important since I have not seen most of them face to face. It is easy to become anonymous drone to your clients and vice versa if the only interaction between you and them is strictly business talk.

Guess what? That was the magic formula for being a success in freelance. Ever since I have always built relationships with my steady clients and business couldn’t be better. All it takes, too, is just a few simple things. First, be genuine and honest with your client (should be a no-brainer). Second, get to know your clients by asking questions on where they live, what they do, etc. It doesn’t have to be too personal, but just get them to open up a bit.

Third, and most important, give them the best service you can and if they are not satisfied, make sure they are. Focusing on these three things will not only make your freelance business worthwhile, your income will dramatically rise without ever having to think about it.

One other side to developing business relationships with clients is that you, the freelancer, have a less likely chance of working for a undesirable client. When there is a trusting business relationship, then it is very difficult for either side to “screw over” the other. Also, if you happen to encounter a client who seems cold and not very open to the business relationship then this is a clear sign not to work with him or her. A difficult client is often the freelancer’s worst nightmare.

It is especially hard this day and age where the internet can bring anonymity between freeelancer and client, however, any attempts made to develop business relationships with your clients is the same as writing your own checks. So why not do it?

The Game of Draw Poker – A Brief History

05 Apr 20

In many ways, the game epitomizes the raw bone tenacity of the American spirit that drove the western movement from the Mississippi River in the 1800’s. Life on the frontier was harsh, nagapoker hazardous and full of risks – the pioneers were literally gambling on their lives each day. To both survive in the untamed west and to win at draw poker a man had to be skillful at what he did and count on lady luck to smile on him. He had to closely watch his adversaries and at times bluff his way out of a situation. The results of his actions could prove very profitable or he could lose it all, sometimes even his life. Draw poker then was a natural choice for the men of the American west who were used to risking it all.

The game was the result of an evolutionary process that started when poker was first took shape in America early in the nineteenth-century. Just when and where it was first played is subject to a continuing debate among historians, as is the game’s origins. Several postulations attribute the game’s lineage to a French game called “poque” or possibly to a German game known as “pochspiel.” British historians state that the game was a direct descendent of the English card game of “brag.” Still other researchers claim that poker evolved from a sixteen-century Persian card game called “as nas” that was played with a twenty-five-card deck containing five suites and has rules similar to five-card stud poker. Since exact documentation of poker’s early history is impossible to determine its inception will probably remain a mystery.

Poker is thought to have started in America sometime in the early 1800’s, possibly in saloons of New Orleans. From there it spread up the Mississippi and Ohio rivers by way of the commercial steam boat traffic. Then as the wagon trains and railroads pushed the frontier west, poker continued to gain popularity with the early adventurers. An English actor, Joseph Crowell, recorded seeing poker being played on the riverboats in his diary of 1829 and later in his 1844 book, Thirty Years Passed Among the Players in England and America. A reformed gambler by the name of Jonathan H. Green wrote about early poker in his book, Exposure of the Arts and Miseries of Gambling that was published in 1843. Both men described an early version of poker that was played with a twenty-card deck (A-K-Q-J-10). Each of four players was dealt five cards and bets were placed on these five original cards without discards or draws. When the betting was over the owner of the best hand won the pot – in the order of one pair, two pair, triplets, full house (one pair and a triple), and four of a kind. Due to the limits of a twenty-card deck there was only a single round of betting before the winning hand was declared and this made bluffing a much more difficult maneuver.

As the game evolved it moved to a thirty-two card deck and then eventually to the standard “French deck” of fifty-two cards. Sometime in the mid-1830’s straights and flushes were introduced as winning hands. A few years later draw poker was born and started making the rounds of gambling halls in the west. The first mention of draw poker appeared in the American edition of Bohn’s New Handbook of Games in 1850. In that same year, wild cards were introduced to poker play.

With these enhancements draw poker and another version called stud poker became the card games of choice among the soldiers on both sides of the Civil War. Originally called, “stud horse” poker, the game was played around the campfires between battles and was a close rival to draw poker in popularity. Both versions are conducive to bluffing but in stud poker, you are not allowed to draw or discard cards. Rather, some of the cards are dealt face down and some face up to the player so that everyone at the table knows a few of the cards being held by each player. Betting occurs after each new face up card is dealt and after the last face down card is dealt. The first mention of stud poker appeared in the American Hoyle of 1864.

In draw poker all the cards are dealt face down to the players and after all of the cards have been dealt there is a round of betting. Then players may discard any number of cards and receive the same amount of cards from the dealer. When all the players have completed their hands there is another round of betting before the winner is declared. Later, in 1870, jackpot poker was introduced in an attempt to prevent players with poor hands from being drawn into a pot that was impossible to win. In this version, players were required to have jacks or better to open betting. If a player did not possess the minimum to play, they were required to fold and lose their ante.

The first recorded set of rules for playing draw poker came about when Robert C. Scheneck, a United States ambassador to Great Britain, introduced the game to the members of Queen Victoria’s court at a party in 1872. Fascinated with the new game the royalty asked Scheneck to jot down the rules of the game so they could play the game after he returned to America. He obliged and his handwritten rules of play were then printed by the queen’s staff for future parties. Later, without his permission or that of the queen’s court, his set of rules were published as a small booklet and sold to the masses. Entitled, A Flowery Path to Wealth: The Game of Draw Poker as Taught to the English Aristocracy, the pamphlet was a major hit with the British people who quite often referred to the game as “Scheneck’s poker”. Scheneck, who had served as general under President Lincoln, was embarrassed by the public release of his rules that he had been assured would be used privately by queen’s court.

John W. Keller, an American, included Scheneck’s rules for draw poker in his own book, The Game of Draw Poker, published in 1887. In addition, he used a portion of a letter written by Scheneck to a political friend, Thomas L. Young; to describe how the ambassador had unwittingly became party to the publication of the first set of rules for the game.

Keller’s book provided a more detailed account of the rules and variations to the game as well as a section on progressive poker, which he described as being “The latest development of draw poker… and doubtless owes its origin to the popularity of progressive euchre.” Contrary to Keller’s comments, progressive poker never caught the attention of American gamblers and its play quickly faded from the gaming scene.

Throughout the book, Keller refers to a noted mathematician, “Dr. Pole” who provided the probability and odds for draw poker hands. At the end of the book, he summarizes Pole’s calculations in a series of probability tables, which have stood the test of time. According to Dr. Poe’s figures, there is an astounding 2,598,960 possible hands in draw poker.

Since Keller’s book was published in 1887, there have been a large number of books printed on the subject of draw poker but few have been as clear and concise on the rules and the strategy of the game. His sage advice to “Study your adversaries carefully; watch the game closely; be patient in adversity and calm in prosperity,” seems right in keeping with the old gambler’s adage of knowing “when to hold ’em and when to fold ’em.”

Today, we have social media which makes the entire business of web marketing much easier.

Social media, such as Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, YouTube and popular online forums are great ways to get into the minds and aspirations of your prospects and customers. Other Research

To effectively market a web presence online, you must conduct the proper keyword research. Knowing which keywords to use in your marketing materials will help you rank higher in the search engines thanks to search engine optimization (SEO). The proper keywords will also be used in future PPC (pay-per-click) campaigns, which are essential for maximizing your business web marketing efforts.

Google AdWords is one of the most widely used PPC platforms and there is a built in keyword research tool that is free to use. Business web marketing experts from all over the world use this tool to find those keywords that are highly searched for, but that offer the least amount of competition. By competition, we are referring to websites and other online materials that may be using those same keywords in an attempt to garner attention from the search engines through SEO.

Competitor Research

Notice how we haven’t even begun to discuss a website or even graphics, which is typically where the beginner wants to begin. Right now we are merely discussing concepts, ideas and the concepts and ideas that your customers will go gaga for. This requires extensive research, both market and keyword, but it also requires you to research your direct competitors.

When you find the keywords that you plan to use in your business web marketing campaigns, start looking those keyword terms up using Google or similar search engine. Start researching the first few listings that each term yields. These are the websites and pages created by your direct competition. It is recommended that you take what works from these sites and make them better. Now you are ready to market your small business with a website and other materials.

Web Design and Development

Many people think that the business of marketing relies mostly on sight. It’s the images that count, a business-to-business Internet marketing beginner might say. That online marketer might have a point to a degree. The design of your site does matter, as do the colors. Certain colors have been known to elicit certain responses in people and if your website looks like trash, most people aren’t going to bother to stick around.

That being said, your business web marketing presence does not need to be flashy or laden with the best videogame-like graphics. Your website should be simple, pleasing to the eye and the entire presence should mesh together into one cohesive element.

If you are not artistic or if you don’t know PHP from HTML, it’s recommended that you hire someone to do this part for you. While there are many do-it-yourself open source web design platforms online, if you don’t know what you’re doing it’s usually going to show. Don’t skimp on the design. Let the experts do it for you and wow your audience with a design that flows with your overall message.

Content

A business web marketing site should be filled with content that is useful, well-produced and to-the-point. Nobody wants to read a website filled with a lot of fluff, nor does anyone want to read one that is filled with grammar and spelling mistakes. Keep your information short and sweet, go for shorter paragraphs as opposed to longer ones and always have a call-to-action.
